Kat Brown

I help organisations turn ESG reporting requirements and social value commitments into practical strategy with meaningful action — flexible support, without the overhead of a full-time team.

Portrait of Kat Brown

About

Hi, I’m Kat.

I work with organisations that want flexible support to deliver meaningful impact — without the overhead of a full-time team.

With almost a decade of experience working across AECOM, Bruntwood, Bruntwood SciTech, and Voyage Control, I’ve led ESG programmes, embedded social value into delivery, and helped teams move from commitment to measurable outcomes. I have developed supply-chain programmes, product features for environmental outcomes, reporting frameworks, and hands-on delivery and coordination across regional teams.

My roots are in civil engineering and the built environment, but throughout my career I’ve been equally passionate about creating opportunities for others. Alongside my professional roles, I’ve volunteered across STEM, equality, diversity and inclusion, and school engagement.

I bring a practical and people-focused perspective to sustainability work — combining strategic thinking with collaboration and solutions that organisations can genuinely own and deliver.

Focus areas

Where I can help

Flexible support for organisations navigating ESG, social value, and sustainable impact—without the weight of a full-time hire.

  • 01

    Partnerships & business development

Open doors with the right partners and clients. Flexible support across outreach, engagement, and go-to-market for impact-led organisations.

  • 02

    ESG & Impact Strategy

Simplify Social Value and ESG with a practical strategy built around your priorities, people and operations - giving your team the tools to deliver independently.

  • 03

    Social Value Delivery

Translate social value commitments into programmes, partnerships, and evidence that stand up in procurement, reporting, and stakeholder conversations.

  • 04

    Impact measurement & reporting

Build practical ways to capture, measure, and communicate outcomes—so impact is credible, not just claimed.

How I work

Practical support, lasting capability

Enough structure to move things forward. Enough flexibility for your team to own the outcome — long after the engagement ends.

  1. 01

    Understand the landscape

Map commitments, stakeholders and constraints. Clarify what matters for your organisation, what success looks like, and where to focus.

  2. 02

    Design what is workable

Build strategies, tools and ways of working people can actually use. Fit them into existing delivery rather than duplicating processes.

  3. 03

    Embed and enable

Align teams, partners and suppliers. Train and support where needed. Build capability so your team can keep progressing without ongoing consultancy dependency.

  4. 04

    Prove the impact

Measure what matters, report with clarity, and use evidence to improve the next cycle — whether for procurement, leadership or the communities you serve.

Values

How I show up

  • Practical

Clear, usable solutions that fit how your organisation already works.

  • Collaborative

Work with your people and partners — not around them.

  • Built to last

Capability left behind so progress continues after the engagement.

My work

Impact in context

Practical examples from my experience and professional work. Client names anonymised where needed.

  • Turning insight into impact

Impact measurement platform · Impact Technology

    Problem
A growing SaaS platform needed to build its client pipeline, refine its positioning and turn stakeholder conversations into commercial opportunities.
    Approach
Built targeted outreach campaigns, converting cold prospects into warm opportunities. Led discovery conversations, qualified opportunities and identified potential partnerships.
    Result
Built early pipeline and market insight while helping refine customer journeys, positioning and partnership opportunities.
  • Making social value measurement practical

Social Value Delivery · School Engagement

    Problem
Organisations needed a simple way to understand and communicate the social impact of their work without navigating a complex measurement processes.
    Approach
Supported the development and delivery of a practical Social Impact Calculator, translating social value concepts and outcomes into an accessible tool that organisations could use to assess their impact.
    Result
Made social impact measurement more accessible, helping organisations demonstrate outcomes and communicate their social value with greater clarity and confidence.
  • Group ESG operating model

    Property & science-tech portfolio · Built environment

    Problem
Impact commitments existed across the group, but delivery and reporting were fragmented—making it hard to evidence progress or prioritise investment.
    Approach
Developed and led an ESG business strategy and delivery operating model, aligned stakeholders, and strengthened social value and ESG reporting rhythms.
    Result
Clearer ownership, a workable operating model for ESG delivery, and reporting that leadership could use with confidence.
  • Social value embedded in delivery

    National infrastructure consultancy · Infrastructure

    Problem
Social value sat as goodwill activity rather than a coordinated programme with relationships, outcomes, and evidence across regional offices.
    Approach
Coordinated social value initiatives across multiple North UK offices—building internal and external partnerships, STEM engagement, and delivery that connected to client and community goals.
    Result
A more coherent regional social value approach, stronger external relationships, and programmes that could be evidenced rather than only described.
  • Product features for environmental outcomes

Construction logistics platform · PropTech / logistics

    Problem
The product roadmap needed ESG substance—features that reduced environmental impact, not just a strategy document beside the software.
    Approach
Developed and implemented an ESG strategy alongside product work, including CO₂ emissions calculation for transport and embodied carbon considerations for construction logistics.
    Result
Environmental outcomes built into the product conversation, with tools and policy development to support measurable impact.
